Bosnians still being killed in landmine accidents
Two people were killed and two wounded in landmine accidents in Bosnia in the first week of January alone, the Landmine Survivors Initiative NGO said.

BELGRADE Two people were killed and two wounded in landmine accidents in Bosnia in the first week of January alone, the Landmine Survivors Initiative NGO said. On January 4, a ten-year-old boy died, while his father suffered serious injuries when they entered a marked mine field in Karanovac. The victims were collecting scrap metal. The NGO warned that injuries and deaths caused by landmines continue, despite the obligations undertaken by authorities of Bosnia-Herzegovina, contained a strategy covering the period between 2009 and 2019. The organization said that when it came to mine clearing efforts the results were 40 percent below the planned level five years into the implementation of the strategy. The coordinating group to help landmine victims, made up of ministries and civil society organizations, called on the country's institutions to revise the strategy and come up with "a realistic, but ambitious plan" that would mobilize the resources and reach the goal of a landmine-free Bosnia-Herzegovina by 2019.
