ZAGREB Ivo Josipovic stated that the missing persons issue needs to be solved so that stable and harmonized good neighborly relations could be built in the region. The Croatian president added that this was also a condition for the further discussion of the future of mutual genocide suits filed by Serbia and Croatia. Croatian media reported ahead of Josipovic's visit to Belgrade that Croatia will not withdraw its genocide suit against Serbia. During his stay in Belgrade, Josipovic said that Croatia has not adopted the final decision on the potential withdrawal of the genocide suit against Serbia, and upon return to Zagreb, he said that there is no political will to drop the charges and that there are also some concerns as to how this would be interpreted in the public. Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusic told Belgrade media that she would like to see the two countries resolve the issue of their mutual genocide charges as this would be a good political move. The missing persons issue was one of the main topics of the first official visit to Serbia in mid-October, Josipović said at a conference on the missing persons and the programme of the future work organised by the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) in The Hague.

During his stay in Belgrade, Josipović said that Croatia has not adopted the final decision on the potential withdrawal of the genocide suit against Serbia, and upon return to Zagreb, he said that there is no political will to drop the charges and that there are also some concerns as to how this would be interpreted in the public.

Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Vesna Pusić told Belgrade media that she would like to see the two countries resolve the issue of their mutual genocide charges as this would be a good political move.

As for Croatia, the missing persons issue needs to be resolved prior to any talk on suit withdrawal, Pusić said.
