Former Croatian Prime Minister and Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader Ivo Sanader will be released pending trial on Friday. After spending little over a year in Austrian and Croatian prisons, Sanader will be released from the Remetinec penitentiary by a decision of the Zagreb Municipal Court. Ex-Croat PM to be released pending trial The court upheld the decision of the Supreme Court which ruled that the former PM be released. Sanader pledged not to flee Croatia and to report to the investigative judge on the first Monday of every month. Sanader's friends and wife put up real estate as collateral for Sanader's release. After the rulings from the Constitutional Court which ordered his release last week and the Supreme Court which denied the prosecution's appeal to the decision that he be released on a HRK 12.4mn bail (EUR 1.65mn), the Zagreb Municipal Court's ruling was just a formality. Sanader will leave Remetinec Friday afternoon. He is charged with war profiteering, i.e. taking commission from Hypo Bank, and, in a separate case included in the same indictment, accepting bribe from Hungarian oil company MOL in the sale of Croatian INA oil company.
