The EU Council of Ministers welcomed the European Commission's (EC) conclusions on the progress Montenegro has made, achieving overall satisfactory results.

The EU Council of Ministers welcomed the European Commission's (EC) conclusions on the progress Montenegro has made, achieving overall satisfactory results. The council said this was true in particular in addressing the key priorities identified in the Commission Opinion released in 2010, in the light of opening the accession talks. EU ministers welcome EC report on Montenegro The conclusions adopted by the council in Brussels late Monday state that Montenegro has made good progress in meeting the criteria necessary for EU membership, especially the political ones, and achieved progress towards a functioning market economy. The country also continued to implement smoothly the Stabilization and Association Agreement, the conclusions read. The EU ministers decided that Montenegro is in position to assume the obligations of membership in the medium term and in most of the fields of the EU acquis. The conclusions underline that the continuing efforts in implementing reforms, and especially in the combat against corruption and organized crime, will remain the key issues during the process of membership talks with Montenegro.
