Serbia-born politician's party wins in Slovenia

With 99.7 percent of votes counted, the centre-left Positive Slovenia party led by Zoran Janković won 28.5 percent of the votes.

With 99.7 percent of votes counted, the centre-left Positive Slovenia party led by Zoran Jankovic won 28.5 percent of the votes. The party will have 28 mandates, after early parliamentary elections in Slovenia, the electoral commission stated. Serbia-born politician's party wins in Slovenia Janez Jansa's Slovenian Democratic Party came in second with 26.3 percent, i.e., 26 seats in parliament. According to the results, Prime Minister Borut Pahor's Social Democratic Party (SD) should get ten mandates, whereas Citizen's alliance of Gregor Virant won 8.4 percent of the votes and should have eight seats. Pahor congratulated Jankovic on his win and said that the SD, which won 10.49 percent, obtained more votes than they expected. Jansa also congratulated Jankovic on the victory. Three more parties have passed the 4-percent threshold - the Democratic Party of Pensioners of Slovenia and the Slovenian People's Party won 6.97 and 6.90 percent respectively, and they will have six MPs each, whereas the New Slovenia took 4.8 percent and will have 4 mandates in the 90-seat parliament. Jankovic was born in 1953 in a village near Smederevo in central Serbia, to a Serbian father and a Slovenian mother. He spent his childhood in Serbia. Jankovic previously served as mayor of Ljubljana, and was the president of the managing board of the Mercator Group. Janez Janša's Slovenian Democratic Party came in second with 26.3 percent, i.e., 26 seats in parliament.

According to the results, Prime Minister Borut Pahor's Social Democratic Party (SD) should get ten mandates, whereas Citizen's alliance of Gregor Virant won 8.4 percent of the votes and should have eight seats.
