The EC has started analyzing Croatia’s law annulling Serbia, Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia and Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA) legal acts. The EC has called on Croatia to provide conditions for continuation of a constructive dialogue about war crimes in the region, Zagreb-based daily Jutarnji list reported on Saturday. The EC is mostly interested to see if there are any changes compared to the previous draft bill, to which it had many objections and requested additional explanations. According to unofficial information, diplomats from some EU member states, that have been skeptical about Croatia, have warned that Croatia could face problems during ratification of the Accession treaty if the adopted law was seen as something that could halt trials for war crimes and regional cooperation in that sense. The EU has warned that persecution of war criminals in Croatia will be of special interest during the EC monitoring.
