If the indictment had not been raised, he would have been released on Friday after spending six months in custody. 59-year-old Mercep is currently at a rehabilitation center due to his bad health after spending six months at Dubrava prison hospital. Even though NGOs, media and part of the public have been pointing it out, there was no investigation against Mercep for execution of 20 Serb civilians in the town of Vukovar in the summer of 1991 before any fighting took place in the town and for his role in the events that took place in the town of Gospic where more than 100 Serb civilians were taken and killed. Tihomir Oreskovic was sentenced to 15, Mirko Norac to 12 and Stjepan Grandic to 10 years in prison for the killing of Serbs in Gospic. Tomislav Mercep (Beta, file)
