Former Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Carla del Ponte said that there is willingness in Serbia to arrest the remaining Hague fugitives before the court closes. Asked if she believes Ratko Mladic will be arrested before the Hague closes, in an interview to the Sarajevo daily Oslobodjenje Del Ponte said she was convinced of it. Del Ponte: Serbia is willing to arrest fugitives "There is willingness to do this in Serbia now, earlier there was no political will. Cooperation was difficult in the beginning. The EU plays an important role. The Tribunal is due to close in 2014, and Mladic will be arrested before then," Del Ponte said. She confirmed that she has expressed the wish to continue the investigation into the Kosovo organ trafficking case, but added that so far there are no concrete signs she will be involved. Del Ponte said she would work with the same energy if she became Hague chief prosecutor once again. "Only my position would be completely different, in fact, I would be in a much better position, because now I know a lot more than I knew then. I have valuable experience behind me," she said. My mission is over. I did what I could do, but not alone, but with my associates. During the eight years of my mandate and our joint work, I believe we managed to get a lot done, Del Ponte said. She reminded that out of 61 indictments brought by the Hague, only Mladic and Goran Hadzic remain at large. Carla Del Ponte (FoNet, file)
