In an illegal Roma settlement in a Roma suburb, four children lost their lives in a fire, which renewed the debate on Roma living conditions in Italian capital. Three boys and a girl, between three and eleven years of age died in their sleep, the police stated on Monday. The fire was most likely caused by the fire lit inside the building to keep the children warm. Four Roma children die in fire in Rome They were all siblings of Romanian Roma nationality, which lived in vicinity of Via Appia Nuova, the police specified, and AP reported. The Mayor of Rome Gianni Alemanno defined this accident a tragedy. He said that illegal camps must be shut down and promised new, safe legal building for the Roma. According to the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, around 7,000 Roma live in Rome, almost half of which make minors.

They were all siblings of Romanian Roma nationality, which lived in vicinity of Via Appia Nuova, the police specified, and AP reported.
