Greece is one of Europe’s most economically troubled countries and Prime Minister George Papandreou has been forced to introduce austerity measures after a debt crisis exploded. Contrary to other debt-ridden countries like Ireland and Portugal, Greece’s ruling Socialists enjoy a comfortable parliamentary majority and recent opinion polls give them a lead over the main opposition conservative, New Democracy party.
