Snow and wind have hit most parts of Bulgaria and Romania over the weekend, so the traffic in both countries has either slowed down, or is completely blocked. The situation in Bulgaria is the worst in the north-east regions, where the state of emergency has already been declared, Bulgarian BTA news agency has reported. Heavy snowfall blocks Bulgaria, Romania According to local authorities, a state of emergency is soon expected in other municipalities too. Schools and kindergartens in north-east region of Silistra, as well as all roads, have been closed. Electric Company EVN Bulgaria has announced that its teams are trying to re-establish normal power supply for 149 villages in southeast of the country that have been without electricity since 42 electric lines broke, reports said. In Bucharest, Agerpres news agency reported that road traffic was carried out under winter conditions on most main streets due to the snow removing operation conducted all night, Bucharest General Mayor Sorin Oprescu said. Elementary schools and kindergartens in Bucharest and 12 municipalities are closed today and tomorrow. According to the Romanian National Company for Highways and National Roads (CNADNR), the traffic has been stopped on 16 roads in southeast and south of the country due to unfavorable weather conditions. Navigation of sea-going ships has been closed on the Sulina channel and sandbar because of bad weather and water conditions. Hundreds of trucks are waiting near the Giurgiu-Ruse borderline between Romania and Bulgaria, for traffic jam to clear and traffic restrictions to be lifted for motor vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tons. Bucharest Police spokesman Christian Ciocan said that over the past 24 hours, 37 car collisions have been recorded and Road Brigade teams assure entrance to and exit from the city by banning the passage of motor vehicles that exceed 3.5 tones, in order to avoid traffic jams. The National Weather Administration (ANM) has announced that unfavorable weather conditions in the country will continue during the day with wind gusts up to 65 km per hour.
