“Much work left for Bosnia-Herzegovina”

Head of the European Union delegation to Bosnia-Herzegovina Dimitris Kourkoulas said that the country has a lot of work ahead of it. He said that Bosnia has yet to fulfill all conditions needed for visa liberalization. “Much work left for Bosnia-Herzegovina” Kourkoulas said that with the adoption of the changes and additions made to the Criminal Law in the Bosnia-Herzegovina parliament is a “large step towards fulfilling all conditions, but at this moment it cannot be said that all the conditions are fulfilled.” Kourkoulas told daily Dnevni Avaz that it could be said that Bosnia has fulfilled all demands in “the legislative sense, but there is more work with the technical conditions” to be done. He said that experts of the European Commission that will be arriving in Bosnia in mid-February will make a final assessment on whether Bosnia is ready for the visa-free regime. Kourkoulas said that adequate solutions need to be found for 148 people seeking asylum in Bosnia, and that several sub-law acts must be passed for the control of suspicious transactions, and that the action plan for implementing the strategy for the fight against organized crime must be adopted as well. Readers for biometric passports are being installed, which should be finished by the end of January, after which every border crossing will have to have at least two operative readers, Kourkoulas said.
