Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader has announced his resignation at a news conference in Zagreb this Wednesday. Earlier in the day, daily Jutarnji List quoted its sources who said Sanader had already notified his closest associates of his decision, as well as his Croatian Democratic Alliance (HDZ) party club in the country's parliament. Croat PM resigns, withdraws from politics The daily's sources further said that he will likely be replaced at the helm of the government and the party by Jadranka Kosor, currently deputy PM. This has in the meantime been confirmed The media was speculating that Sanader would either withdraw from politics for good, or that he was preparing to run for president. But the Croat PM said that he had decided to leave politics altogether. Sanader did not reveal what motivated him to make this move, but said illness was not the reason.
