Inzko officially named as new OHR chief

Austrian diplomat Valentin Inzko has officially been named the new international high representative of Bosnia-Herzegovina in Sarajevo. The executive committee of the Bosnian Peace Implementation Council (PIC) is convinced that it will have excellent cooperation with Inzko once he takes over the Office of the High Representative (OHR) after a meeting of political directors of the Council’s board of directors, it was announced after a meeting of PIC ambassadors. Inzko officially named as new OHR chief The OHR will inform the UN Security Council of the PIC’s decision. EU Foreign and Security Policy Chief Javier Solana has welcomed the appointment. “I am happy about the forthcoming cooperation with Inzko, who can count on my complete support. He is an excellent expert on the situation in the Western Balkans, especially in Bosnia-Herzegovina,” Solana said. The statement adds that Inzko will take over from current High Representative Miroslav Lajcak within the coming days. Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindler said in Ljubljana that Valentin had the full trust of the Austrian government. “We will talk about how he will be working in Sarajevo once the process is over, because more formal decisions need to be taken,” he said during a visit to Slovenia.

The OHR will inform the UN Security Council of the PIC’s decision.

EU Foreign and Security Policy Chief Javier Solana has welcomed the appointment.

“I am happy about the forthcoming cooperation with Inzko, who can count on my complete support. He is an excellent expert on the situation in the Western Balkans, especially in Bosnia-Herzegovina,” Solana said.

The statement adds that Inzko will take over from current High Representative Miroslav Lajčak within the coming days.

Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindler said in Ljubljana that Valentin had the full trust of the Austrian government.
