Beta news agency reports that "up to 600 police and Gendarmes" are out in the streets of the town after the murder of Ion Parvu, a criminal gang leader. Parvu then produced a sward to cut Mavriche's face, after which he fired a shot from a revolver into Parvu's head, killing him. Mavriche survived, but could be looking at 25 years in jail if found guilty of murder. The police were deployed in force in the streets of Craiova after a large number of people started gathering at the hospital where the pair were taken. Authorities feared that the rival gangs might engage in a clash.
