The fire that erupted on a Turkish freight ship on Wednesday off the Croatian coast has been put under control. Two Italian tugboats have moved the ship to a location some ten nautical miles from the western shores of Istria. Croatian officials will discuss the matter with the company that owns the Turkish ship. The company called on the help of Dutch experts yesterday to extinguish the fires and organize the salvage effort. Had the ship sunk, it could have potentially caused an ecological disaster in the area, since it was carrying some 200 trucks and 11 tons of hazardous materials.
