Montenegro adopted its new Constitution on Friday, the second in its history as an independent and sovereign state. The first one was adopted in 1905 under the reign of King Nikola Petrovic. Montenegro gets new constitution Two thirds of MPs voted in favor - those of the ruling coalition of the Democratic Party of Socialists and the Social Democratic Party, the opposition Movement for Change, the Bosniak Party and the Liberal Party. MPs from Serb parties - the Socialist People's Party, the People's Party and the Democratic Serb Party - voted against, while MPs from the Albanian Alternative, the Democratic Union of Albanians and the Democratic Alliance of Albanians did not attend the session. The parliament also adopted a law on implementing the Constitution with the same ratio of votes - 55 : 21. The new Constitution will be officially proclaimed at a ceremony on Monday.

Montenegro gets new constitution

Two thirds of MPs voted in favor - those of the ruling coalition of the Democratic Party of Socialists and the Social Democratic Party, the opposition Movement for Change, the Bosniak Party and the Liberal Party.
