According to earlier media announcements, the document signing ceremony began at 11 a.m., and the President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Speaker of the Kosovo Parliament Glauk Konjufca signed the document.On that occasion, Osmani pointed out that the application for EU membership is a "historic day".
In her speech after the signing ceremony, she also said that Kosovo, as a country of peace and respect for human rights, deserves to be part of the EU.
"Today is a historic day. It is a historic moment. December 14th has a double significance in the modern history of Kosovo. In addition to the application for membership, today is also the anniversary of the founding of the Army. These two acts go in the direction of our Euro-Atlantic vision. On behalf of Kosovo, we make decisive step towards the realization of a dream. To bring our country one step closer to the EU. There is no other alternative for Kosovo. On the eve of the 15th anniversary of independence, this act is dedicated to all citizens, those who fought for freedom. The youngest country in Europe, a country of political pluralism, religious rights, an indomitable contributor to peace and security deserves to be part of the EU. Our path forward is clear. We are determined to succeed. We will do our part to make the EU's road easier", Osmani said.
Konjufca also pointed out that today is very important. According to him, the EU is complete only when all European nations are part of it.
"This is the first official step on the road to Kosovo's membership in the EU. This journey goes through the European Commission... but this decision belongs to the governments of the member countries, which we invite to vote unanimously," said Konjufca.
