Lazanski's successor elected in Moscow?

New Ambassador of Serbia to the Russian Federation will be Professor Dr Momcilo Babic, who has served in the same position in Slovakia so far, the media report. Thus, four months after the sudden death of Miroslav Lazanski, the vacancy in this extremely important diplomatic mission of our country will be filled, Novosti writes. Babic's official biography states that he is one of the most prominent Serbian doctors.

He was born in Pec, educated in Belgrade, where he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, and received his master's degree in Moscow as a scholarship holder of the World Health Organization at the International Faculty of Health Care.

He received his doctorate in Belgrade from the Faculty of Medicine in 1986. He completed his specialization in social medicine at the Medical Faculty in the Serbian capital, where he was elected a research associate, and since 2000 he has been a full professor of social medicine.

A brilliant career

He performed numerous professional and social duties. He was the director of the Sector for Development of the Clinical Center of Serbia, the city secretary for health in the Assembly of the City of Belgrade, where he initiated the project "Belgrade - a healthy city". For ten years he was the head of KBC "Bežanijska kosa", he was the assistant minister of health, as well as the director of the Republic Health Insurance Fund.

He was the President of the Council of the University of Belgrade. He spent more than two years on study visits, especially in Russia and the United States: John Hopkins University in Baltimore, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, the National Institute of Health in Bethesda (Maryland), George Town University in Washington, DC, Carolina Institute - Stockholm, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, The Moscow Medical Stomatological Institute (MMSI), Semashko Institute in Moscow.

He established cooperation with the Rush University in Chicago, where doctors from the hospital he managed were sent for training for years. He is the author of more than 250 scientific and professional papers published in foreign and domestic journals and congresses, as well as 24 professional-scientific medical books. He was the founder and first president of the Medical Academic Forum, an association of doctors of academic provenance based in Belgrade, founded in 2002.
