Haradinaj after meeting with Hahn: Taxes stay

After a meeting with European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, Haradinaj said at a press conference that they had discussed many issues, including normalization talks between Kosovo and Serbia and the decision to impose a 100-percent tax on Serbian and Bosnian products, underlining that the new tariffs would be revoked when Serbia recognized the independence of Kosovo.

The Kosovo PM said to the EU enlargement commissioner that Kosovo was forced to introduce the new tariffs to respond to repeated obstructions by Serbia.

Haradinaj noted that the Kosovo government was committed to European integrations, that the rule of law was its priority, along with all the top objectives arising from the Association and Stabilization Agreement, economic growth in particular.

Kosovo's prime minister said that Kosovo had met the requirements for visa liberalization, demanding that a visa-free regime be introduced for the citizens of Kosovo.

Haradinaj explained that the decision to levy new taxes was not targeted against Serbs, the citizens of Kosovo, or any other community.

According to Albanian language daily Zeri's website, Hahn said that the realistic date for visa liberalization for Pristina was 2020 - "without ruling out that it might happen sooner."
