Minister addresses road blocks put up in protest

He remarked that spontaneous gatherings do not have organizers and are a direct reaction to an event, "and therefore cannot go on for days."

"People must be aware that they are committing a violation of the Law on Public Assembly," Stefanovic said, adding that drivers who park their cars in the street are guilty of this, as well as those who do that on highways. He said that penalties will be imposed in cases involving legal offenses.

Stefanovic also said that he did not think there way any need to convene a meeting of the Serbian government due to these protests.

Leader of the opposition PSG movement Sasa Jankovic wrote on Twitter that he "wants to believe that putting intervention police on standby" since early on Monday morning has nothing to do with the protests.

The traffic blockades started last Friday in major cities in Serbia. Roads were also blocked this morning in several cities. In Belgrade, several vehicles were blocking the highway leading to the city's international airport for 45 minutes before they were removed the police.
