For that reason, the Serb List - which represents Serbs in the Kosovo Assembly - "urges international representatives to step up preventive action and presence in Serb areas and prevent attacks," he said.

Simic announced a meeting at noon on Tuesday with representatives of the "Quint" countries (US, Germany, France, UK, Italy) where the Serb List will "demand a more clear condemnation of the attacks." In the coming days, a meeting with the KFOR commander is expected, he added.

Simic pointed out that there have been synchronized attacks in those areas where Serb are a minority, and said that the aim is to intimidate returnees and Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. "What are hearing from those in charge of security in KiM (Kosovo and Metohija) - nothing would be better than hearing hypocritical statements that relativize these attacks," Simic told RTS.

He pointed out that "dark circles from Pristina" are trying to destabilize the Balkans, and that the Kosovo police, KFOR and security services are not doing their job, "because incidents that are isolated are taking place."

A series of incidents - more than 20 - have happened in Kosovo since May 1, targeting Serbs.

According to Simic, "someone is creating this climate ahead of the agreements expected in Brussels."

He also referred to the draft law on religious freedom in Kosovo, stating that in its first reading, it was generally good with some shortcomings - but that Albanian members of the Assembly then submitted amendments making the bill pointless, and endangering the protection of property of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) in Kosovo.

Simic added that the Serb List has strongly protested because of this, and noted that the Assembly cannot pass this law without the Serb votes.
