"Intensive and meaningful" political dialogue with Bulgaria

Brnabic, who is taking part in the international conference "Stronger Regional Integration in the Balkans" in Sofia, stressed that Serbia is satisfied with the intensive and meaningful political dialogue that exists with Bulgaria at the high level and that it is important that such a trend be continued.

Brnabic and Borisov discussed Bulgaria's presidency of the EU next year and agreed that it is very important that the EU Council presidency program recognizes the continuation of enlargement as one of the most important aspects of affirming the EU as a global leader.

The Serbian prime minister stressed that she is grateful to Bulgaria for its support to the process of Serbia's European integration and the continued commitment of Sofia to continue the EU enlargement policy and emphasized that full membership of Serbia in the European Union is the foreign policy priority of our country.

Brnabic noted that this year's visit of Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva to Belgrade, as the first destination in the preparations for taking over the EU presidency by Bulgaria, was very important for promoting the importance of EU enlargement to the Western Balkans.

The prime minister welcomed Sofia's initiative to hold the Summit of EU and Western Balkans leaders during the EU presidency next year, pointing to the fact that, in addition to the EU integration policy, Serbia attaches equally high importance to regional cooperation and reconciliation processes.

The Serbian prime minister added that open dialogue is the best framework for resolving all the controversial issues and that without stability in the region, no state will be able to advance towards the EU, or in the direction of internal reforms or improvement of the living standards of its citizens.

The prime ministers of Serbia and Bulgaria expressed their satisfaction that Belgrade will host the quadrilateral meeting of the Serbian President at the end of the week with the prime ministers of Bulgaria, Greece and Romania, as this type of cooperation has significant potential for further intensification of relations and contributes to regional stability.

Brnabic underlined that Serbia is interested in further improvement of trade exchange, cooperation in the field of tourism and through IPA programs, as well as in realization of joint projects in the field of infrastructure and energy.
