Minister meets with representatives of Media Freedom Group

The ministry announced that the meeting discussed "improving the media situation in Serbia."

Representatives of the Media Freedom Group handed about ten days ago handed over their demands aimed at improving the media situation to Prime Minister Ana Brnabic.

Among the demands is the formation of a new working group for the Media Strategy, shedding light on all attacks on journalists, the withdrawal of state from ownership in Politika, Vecernji Novosti and Dnevnik, and the end of work of the Tanjug agency, which was shzt down by a government decision two years ago.

The demands state that journalists and media associations, the media, civil society organizations and citizens gathered in the informal Media Freedom Group, are demanding from the government and the Assembly that representatives of the government, primarily the top state officials, stop publicly calling out journalists and media and attempting to discredit them.

They demand that the government, ministries, its members and representatives of other state institutions, when delivering invitations to public events, respond to journalists' questions and media requests for interviews and statements, in the same way, without selection and discrimination, treat all media that comply with the Code of Conduct Serbia.
