Pristina "has not applied for UNESCO membership this year"

Pristina-based Albanian language daily Epoka e Re is reporting this on Monday, further citing Pacolli as saying:

"I'm sorry to have to inform you that Kosovo has not applied for membership, and that (membership application) will not be the subject of the next conference."

Hoxhaj, on the other hand, said that there was "plenty of time for Kosovo to apply for membership in both organizations."

According to him, Pristina has enough votes to be admitted to both organizations.

He added that "a country has completed all procedures" to recognize Kosovo - but would not say which country this was.

In an interview with Pristina daily Zeri, Hoxhaj also said that before becoming a member of these international organizations, Kosovo should do its "homework" and adopt laws on religious freedoms and cultural heritage.

Pristina's officials have been lobbying for Kosovo's membership in UNESCO since 2009, and in 2015 submitted an application that failed by only three votes - with a two-thirds majority needed and 92 members voting in favor, and 50 against.
