"Indestructible Brotherhood": Serbia in CSTO military drill

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is a regional military bloc made up of former Soviet republics: Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Sputnik noted that Serbia and Afghanistan became observers at the CSTO Assembly.

"Bearing in mind that the Serbian Army has already taken part in similar exercises with Russia and Belarus, Belgrade's cooperation with the CSTO in this sector seems logical," says political analyst Dusan Prorokovic.

However, according to him - the agreements the country has signed "speak to it being closer to NATO than to the CSTO."

"During the past four years Serbia signed three agreements with NATO, including the highly controversial IPAP. We often participate in military drills with CSTO members, but we're falling behind when it comes to formalizing our relations," Prorokovic said.
