Addressing a workshop on prevention of violent extremism in Serbia, Stefanovic said the ministry wanted to prevent recruitment of potential terrorists and dismantle terrorist funding channels.

"The MUP has invested significant efforts in the past in order to discover early the persons who may participate in the radicalization," said Stefanovic.

He explained that one of Serbia's proposals to the EU was to establish a regional center for "de-radicalization" - and this, he says, means that money should be invested in working with young people.

Serbia, said Stefanovic, has prepared an action plan with a draft national strategy for the prevention of terrorism, while "an important segment in the prevention is the concept of the police in the community, which means that the danger is recognized in a timely manner."

"This is a problem of society and all those who want to help are very welcome. This implies the inclusion of all. The OSCE mission helps by training the police, all the way to assisting in the development of national strategies," said the minister.

According to Stefanovic, Serbia wants to be a partner to other countries, "even the bigger and stronger ones" in the fight against extremism, "and will not give up the fight."
