"We're committed to Serbia's EU path, there's no plan B"

Danielsson told the paper that "fears that in evaluating the results of Belgrade on the European road political reasons might prevail" were not justified - and that there was "no doubt that the European Union is firmly committed to Serbia's European path."

"There is no plan B. Serbia needs to continue to make progress in the areas covered by each (accession negotiations) chapter. At the same time, Serbia should pay special attention to reforms in the area of the rule of law," the EC official said, adding that these reforms are "so fundamental that (EU) member-states expect to see steady progress throughout the entire road."

According to Danielsson, "Serbia needs to also achieve steady progress in the normalization of relations with Kosovo."

"This is also very important, recent events were not favorable for that direction," he has been quoted as saying, and noting Serbia "must work on regional cooperation, peace and stability."

Danielsson praised Serbia for "the good progress" achieved to date, and said there was good chance that several more chapters would be opened during this year.
