According to Vucic, Mali has been "among the best mayors" the Serbian capital has had ever since Branko Pesic held that office. But, the prime minister said, he told Mali about "this decision" to his face.

Vucic spoke about the mayor after the interviewer asked about the accusations presented publicly against the mayor by his former wife, Marija Mali.

In an interview for the KRIK website, she said that Mali told her he was the one who organized the controversial April night-time demolitions in Savamala, and spoke about the way he allegedly influenced the court after their divorce, claiming at the same time that he was involved in financial wrongdoings.

Vucic said that top city officials would face political responsibility "as soon as the prosecution says certain things."

"I don't think I've ever been in the Mali family home, we're not personal friends, although Sinisa has been an exceptional associate to me for several years," he said.

Vucic then repeated a statement he made on several occasions in the past - that the Savamala demolitions "should have been done by day, and in front of reporters and cameras."

"I've seen the letters of Marija Mali twice now, but I must say something that's bad for my pal Sinisa - I always take the woman's side. Although I should not meddle, I'll say something that's against him. I think children should always be with their mother," Vucic said, apparently in reference to Sinisa Mali gaining custody of his three children after the divorce.
