"Even if released, Haradinaj is still war criminal to us"

First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on Sunday that <a href="http://www.b92.net/eng/news/crimes.php?yyyy=2017&mm=02&dd=09&nav_id=100474" class="text-link" target= "_blank">Ramush Haradinaj</a> is not "on trial" a politician.

"Even if released, Haradinaj is still war criminal to us"

According to Dacic, the Kosovo Albanian politicians and former leader of the KLA ("Kosovo Liberation Army"), currently in France pending a decision on Serbia's extradition request "could also be released - but he will remain a war criminal as far as Serbia is concerned."

He noted that many from Haradinaj's defense are trying to present the case as political, "which is not true."

Serbia suspects that Haradinaj committed war crimes against civilians in Kosovo in 1998 and 1999.

He was arrested on January 4 at the border of Switzerland and France, according to Interpol's wanted list, and then Serbia sent France a request for his extradition, on which the Court of Appeal in Colmar will state its decision on March 2.

Speaking about the possibility of forming an army of Kosovo, Dacic said this was "unacceptable" - and that Serbia made that point clear both to the EU and NATO that this was the case.

According to Dacic, "the international community, not only the Serbs, is against it."

An army of Kosovo would be "absolutely contrary to (UNSC) Resolution 1244," he told journalists, adding that "KFOR, and nobody else, can be the only armed force in Kosovo."

Dacic also said that Serbia must be in dialogue with Croatia, but that Croatia should not expect that our country will applaud to a monument to Alojzije Stepinac and rehabilitating the Ustasha movement in that country.

He stressed that it is Serbia's obligation to respond to rehabilitation of the Ustasha movement in Croatia, which is also Croatia's obligation as an EU member.

Dacic also "underlined his opposition to the rehabilitation of war criminals and collaborators of the occupiers in Serbia, but even more rehabilitation of the NDH (Independent State of Croatia) and crimes against Serbs and Jews," the Serbian government said in a statement.
