Aleksandar Vucic will get Serbia into the EU, whatever political position he might occupy at the time, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has said.

Vucic is the one who'll get Serbia to EU, says Schroeder

When asked whether Vucic would be "prime minister or president of Serbia" at the time, Schroeder responded:

"Aleksandar will be the one to get Serbia into the EU, whatever position he might occupy. He will decide on this in due time. Until then, others will be saying they will, and he will be working. It is that simple when you are a politician."

He said he was confident Serbia and Vucic would manage to join the EU but added that Europe, too, must be interested in that.

"Serbia is one of the most significant countries, if not the most significant, in southeastern Europe," Schroeder said.
