"I wasn't strong enough then" - Vucic on his 1990s role

The question was how different what Vucic does today is compared to what he was doing when he was the minister of information, and whether something has changed.

Vucic also said that he had answered this question "at least a thousand times before," and described it as "more personal than political."

Vucic explained he was 28 when he became the minister of information, and that this happened "in the middle of the war, when we got bad laws on the media and media freedoms."

"This law was better than the one from 2009, but nobody complained that," said Vucic, adding that at the time, he was "not strong enough to stand up against everything someone adopted and put into effect."

Vucic's message was also that he "paid a political price and has repeatedly talked about it, while citizens took his word for it."

Several journalists walked out of this regional media event in protest during Vucic's speech, including CINS Director Branko Cecen, while the president of the Independent Journalists' Association of Vojvodina (NDNV), Nedim Sejdinovic, canceled his participation, also in protest.
