Vulin made a connection between the security threat related to the recent discovery of a weapons cache near Vucic's home and the U.S. embassy in Serbia, noting that he was not speaking on behalf of the government, "and had no chance for an exchange of opinions with the prime minister."

However, said the minister, he "does not want to believe the U.S. state is behind this."

"But I must draw the attention to the behavior of that state's employees and the disrespect they show toward this county," Vulin stated.

According to Tanjug, the U.S. ambassador said on Wednesday that he saw Vulin's statement which left him at a loss for words, and uncertain how to respond.

"I think there have been too many statements and that we'd be better off focusing more on the facts in our relations, and our relations are on the rise, they are fair," Scott told reporters, according to the agency.

Scott made the comments while opening Green Building Expo in Belgrade together with Zorana Mihajlovic, a cabinet minister and one of Vucic's deputies, and said this was a good example of his country's relations with Serbia moving forward.

"Our goal is the same as the goal of the Serbian government, and that is faster growth and Serbia in the EU," he said.
