They particularly focused on the fight against international terrorism and illegal drug trade, as well as on information security, the presidential press office said in a statement.

Patrushev said his meetings with Serbian state officials earlier in the day had pointed to concrete further steps in the cooperation and that there were no disagreements on matters of mutual interest.

Nikolic noted Serbia had no intention of imposing sanctions on Russia as that would have grave and very harmful consequences for Serbian interests and erode the friendship with Russia.

"Further improvement"

Serbian First Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic and the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev, agreed Wednesday that the cooperation between Serbian and Russian security services should be improved further.

Dacic and Patrushev met in Belgrade to discuss the relations between the two countries in the security sector and ways of improving them, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

They also discussed specific bilateral matters and current regional and international security topics.

Dacic reiterated that Serbia-Russia relations were traditionally good and developing in the interest and to the satisfaction of both countries, adding that additional incentives were needed in trade and economic cooperation, the statement said.
