Duraković lost Srebrenica, tensions after election

The former mayor Duraković had the support of all pro-Bosniak parties.

Strong police forces were present on the streets of Srebrenica because of the tensions, and Grujičić’s supporters arrived in busses. People were shouting and applauding Grujičić, chanting "Victory" and "Serbia".

At the same time, the President of the Republika Srpska and leader of the SNSD Milorad Dodik declared victory in the majority of RS’s municipalities, and announced the almost certain victory of the Serbian candidate Mladen Grujičić in Srebrenica.

Dodik said that Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić congratulated him on his victory.

"I appreciate that", said Dodik, and at a reporter’s remark on whether the Russian President Putin congratulated him, he said that he had spoken to Moscow without revealing whom with.

Dodik celebrated the results with a microphone in his hand, performing a folk song with the following lines: "Ne može nam niko ništa jači smo od sudbine, mogu samo da nas mrze oni što nas ne vole" [No one can touch us, we are stronger than the faith, those who don’t like us can only hate us].

President of the RS left a 100-Euro bill in bellows of the accordion.

As evaluated by the media in Bosnia and Herzegovina, these local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina had probably been "the most uncertain and the most interesting elections ever held in the country, by numerous factors".

Local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina were marked by independent candidates that had won in the municipalities of Stari Grad Sarajevo (Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, former member of the SBB), Goražde (Muhamed Ramović, former member of the SBB), Visoko (Amra Babić, who left the SDA), Zenica (Fuad Kasumović, former member of the SDA); and independent candidates also celebrated in Bužim, Bosanski Petrovac and other cities.

According to Klix.ba, these elections were definitely marked by the victory of the convicted war criminal Fikret Abdić in Velika Kladuša, who won more than 3,800 votes with his Labour Party.
