Vucic at the same time "expressed gratitude for Chancellor Angela Merkel's and the German government's support for Serbia's European integration," Tanjug reported, quoting the statement.

Vucic and Roth also said their countries "maintained good and intensive cooperation in all areas," while the Serbian prime minister remarked that his country "wants to be a dependable and responsible partner to Germany and other EU member states."

They "agreed economic relations between the two countries were very good and that there were many possibilities to develop the cooperation further."

Serbia's reforms have boosted interest among German companies in investing or expanding operations in Serbia, Roth said.

On Monday, the German official spoke for Tanjug after his meeting with Serbia's Minister without Portfolio for EU integration Jadranka Joksimovic to say that Germany "will remain a dependable partner of Serbia on its path towards the EU."

Roth said he was "very appreciative of the constructive role played by the Serbian government, and PM Aleksandar Vucic in particular, in regional relations."

"We need regional reconciliation and a constructive position of all actors, and I think it is good that the Serbian government is advocating reconciliation while proving that in political practice," said Roth.

The Berlin process was launched two years ago, clearly signalling a need for concrete steps - people are communicating, but investments in infrastructure and youth are needed, too, he said.

Also on Monday, the German official spoke with students at the Belgrade University, remarking that his country supports Serbia "if it is determined to be a part of the EU and not of Russia."

This prompted a reaction from Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic, who issued a statement calling Roth's remark "inappropriate and offensive, to say the least."
