K. Albanians opposed to Jeremic's UNSG bid pen letter to UN
"We, the representatives of the families of missing persons call on all UN member-states not to elect Vuk Jeremic as the UN secretary-general," the letter said.According to them, "Jeremic is unfit for the position because he comes from a country that committed genocide during the war in Kosovo and deliberately denied the opportunity to clarify the fate of their loved ones to the families of the missing."
Because of this, the letter went on, to elect Jeremic would be "an insult to all the families of the missing and the victims' families."
The signatories include coordinator of the Council of Associations of the Families of the Missing Bajram Cerkini, President of the Association Mothers Cry Nusrete Kumnova, president of the Association for Discovering the Fate of the Missing Haki Kasumi, and Vice President of the Association Parents' Voice Hysen Hyseni.
They said that Jeremic, when he in the past - from 2007 until 2012 - served as Serbia's foreign minister, "did not apologize for war crimes committed in the former Yugoslavia."
"Vuk Jeremic, who was born and raised in Serbia, holds the most important positions in the Serbian politics, and is one of the people most responsible for genocide during the 1990s in the former Yugoslavia, (for) crimes that left more than 40,000 people missing in addition to the 800,000 victims," the letter said.
After this, the signatories stated that the UN secretary-general must be a person with "high moral and professional qualifications," and that this person "cannot be Jeremic."
Finally, the United Nations is asked to "increase pressure on Serbia, Serbian politicians, Vuk Jeremic among them, to provide the necessary information to find the missing."
