Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Haixing agreed that Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming visit is "historic."

The Chinese president's visit will send a very important message, demonstrating how much China appreciates the friendship with Serbia, Nikolic added.The Serbian president and the Chinese assistant foreign minister noted that the relations were following an upward trend.
“Maybe China has a larger volume of trade and investment with some other countries, but it will hardly find a country in which it enjoys greater respect,” the Serbian president said.
Speaking about excellent political relations between the two countries, Nikolic said that the concordant stands on important political issues, and mutual support for territorial sovereignty and integrity constituted a solid foundation for improving relations in other fields.
He extended special thanks to China for its principled position concerning the non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and Metohija.
Liu conveyed the Chinese president's sincere greetings to Nikolic, adding that the upcoming signing of a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement would contribute to strengthening the economic relations and boosting Chinese investment in Serbia.
The Chinese official said that Nikolic's official visit to his country and his participation in the marking of the anniversary of victory over Japan and fascism in WW2 - when Serbian soldiers also took part - represented "a strong signal of sincere friendship."
According to the Serbian president's press service, Liu added:
"We highly appreciate Serbia's support to the One China policy and its understanding regarding the South China Sea issue. At the same time, China firmly supports Serbia's territorial integrity and sovereignty and its commitment to dialogue as the only way to solve the problem of Kosovo and Metohija."
Liu was also received by Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic earlier in the day.
