"Serbia 'must recognize Kosovo to join EU' - private stance"

"When it comes to Ms. Lunacek, I can only say that she is just one of hundreds and hundreds of deputies (members) of the European Parliament. We respect her opinion, but that is her private position," the director of the Serbian Government's Office for Kosovo and Metohija said on Tuesday.

He at the same time stressed that "Serbia's position is completely different."

Albanian ATA agency reported yesterday that Lunacek "reiterated her position that Serbia cannot join the EU without recognizing Kosovo" and did so while addressing "a forum on development of relations between Serbia and Kosovo" organized by the German Heinrich Boell Foundation in Berlin.

According to ATA, Lunacek also remarked that she is constantly engaged and urging the five EU countries that have not recognized Kosovo to do so, "stressing that this must happen."
