President honors victims at hospital targeted by NATO

Having laid a wreath at a monument built to honor the Yugoslav Army (VJ) soldiers and the patients killed in an air strike on this Belgrade health care institution in May 1999, Nikolic said that the aggressor did not choose whom to kill - civilians or soldiers.

"On this day every year I try to visit a different place of suffering, regardless of whether those killed were civilians or soldiers. All of these places, and this one most of all, represents a disgrace of a civilization at the end of the 20th century," said Nikolic, Beta agency reported.

He added that such places should be visit "as long as there is Serbia, and memory."

A wreath was laid today by the mayor of Belgrade, Sinisa Mali, who said it was "an obligation of the state to preserve the memory of the victims, but also to conduct a responsible policy that will make Serbia a factor of peace and stability."

Wreaths were also laid by the family members of the victims, as well as representatives of KBC (Clinical-Hospital Center) Dragisa Misovic.

A NATO missile attack on May 20, 1999 killed seven members of the Guard Brigade of the Yugoslav Army, and three patients of the hospital.
