Recognition of Kosovo - "separatists' unfulfilled dream"

However, he added, this cannot be based on "Pristina's greater-state fantasies" but rather on "working together to implement agreements and arrangements that are useful to citizens."

"Even in those countries that were the sponsors of the failed secession of a part of Serbia's territory the so-called statehood of our southern province is now increasingly spoken about as an unachievable state-making project, a hotbed of organized crime, a threat to regional security, and a zone of incurable political and social instability," Djuric said in a statement issued on Thursday.

"For that reason, instead of on slogans, the provincial leadership should be spending its energy on solving economic and social problems of residents of Kosovo and Metohija, who have been the victim of political opportunists and demagogues for too long," he continued.

"Serbia and the Serbian people do not speak the language of ultimatums and threats, but one of reason and cooperation, and that is why the history and the future are on our side, and there is place in that future for both Serbians and Albanians, for all others who wish to enjoy in peace and prosperity of our common state," Djuric concluded.

His statement came after Thaci told Vienna-based dailies Standard and Presse that "Serbia's recognition of Kosovo will come in parallel with the process of Serbia's European integration."
