"No membership aspirations, but we want to be NATO partner"

Serbia wants to further strengthen the cooperation through available Partnership for Peace mechanisms, the Serbian Foreign Ministry said in a statement carried by Tanjug.

"General Pavel said that NATO respects Serbia's sovereign decision to remain neutral in military terms, noting that neutrality is not a hurdle to developing the partnership based on individual needs of every country, mutual interests and shared values, as seen in other examples of NATO's cooperation with neutral European partner states," the statement added.

According to this, Dacic and Pavel also said it was "necessary to maintain the spirit of good relations, bearing in mind that Serbia and NATO share a number of issues of mutual interest in which cooperation is possible, such as the fight against international terrorism and the migration crisis."

It was emphasized that a stable and prosperous Balkans in a stable and prosperous Europe was "a goal to which we aspire together."

Pavel "praised Serbia's contribution to regional stability and security, and a pragmatic policy of the government in this context."

The meeting also highlighted the successful cooperation with KFOR - NATO's mission in Kosovo - as well as Serbia's expectation that KFOR will not reduce its presence in the province, "as a guarantor of security and of implementation of the Brussels agreement."
