Croatian media reports about the postponement of Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic's visit to that country amount to "media spinning."

"Nikolic's Zagreb trip wasn't arranged, can't be postponed"

Tanjug, however, said on Tuesday afternoon that the presidential cabinet "neither confirmed nor denied Politika's reporting."

The paper also writes, quoting sources "close to the cabinet of the president," that the initiative for Nikolic's visit came from Croatian counterpart Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic during the Brdo-Brioni Summit in Zagreb last November - "that is, two and a half months after Nikolic's visit to the Vatican."

The daily said it learned this after Zagreb's Jutarnji List reported Croatian officials decided to postpone the visit "because Nikolic asked the pope to halt the canonization of Alojzije Stepinac."

"This is clearly about media spinning," the same source said, noting that the Croatian president "herself initiated the visit and suggested that a date be set after Croatia's new government has been formed."

Meanwhile, Jutarnji List said Grabar-Kitarovic's spokesperson Luka Djuric and her adviser Dario Mihelin both confirmed that "the high-level Croatian-Serbian meeting will not take place for a while," but "did not wish to discuss the reasons for the postponement of the Serbian president's visit."
