"It is in our interest to become an EU member state, as well as to protect our interests. You cannot ask some countries to back us in the struggle in UNESCO, and join the sanctions against Russia at the same time," Dacic said during the debate, responding to a question why the bill does not envision international restriction measures based on acts passed by the EU.

The lawmaker's position was that obligations issuing from membership in organizations in which Serbia is not a member cannot be implemented, Dacic explained.
