Photojournalists welcomed on Tuesday the Serbian parliament's decision to reject the draft interpretation of the law on copyright and related rights.

Photojournalists satisfied with lawmakers' decision

It adds that photographs that illustrate a journalistic article and are the result of "mechanical, routine, physical action" should be protected by general principles of civil law but not copyright law.

The Photography Development Center and numerous associations of photojournalists thanked MPs for unanimously affirming the importance of copyright protection and the right of the public to be properly informed through news photographs.

Earlier on Tuesday, disgruntled photojournalists held a protest in front of the Serbian parliament building, urging MPs to reject this ridiculous proposal that threatened the dignity of the photographic profession.

Serbian lawmakers also refused the draft interpretation of the law on electronic media.
