"About 1,000 migrants have not been allowed to enter Serbia"

According to data from the accommodation center in Presevo on Thursday afternoon, the influx of migrants had not reduced in the last 12 hours, with 3,000 people passing through the center in the previous 24 hours.

UNHCR spokeswoman Melita Sunjic said this morning that Serbia on Wednesday "closed its border with Macedonia to all refugees, except those from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq."

"All others were returned to Macedonia," Sunjic told Beta.

Early this morning, Macedonian authorities "closed the border, thus creating a buffer zone."

Sunjic said that "procedures changed on the border with Croatia," and that "Croats are accepting only migrants who arrive to Slavonski Brod on train from Sid, that is, Afghanis, Syrians, Iraqis and Palestinians. "

The same policy towards migrants is being carried out on the Slovenian border.

Minister of Labor, Veteran and Social Affairs Aleksandar Vulin said earlier that Serbia's decision to close the border to those migrants who are not refugees from war zones was made in order to "protecting the country."
