Serbian president thanks Belarus for UNESCO vote
Speaking at a press conference after meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, Nikolic said that Belarus "once again confirmed the friendship and respect it had for Serbia by voting against admitting the so-called ‘Republic of Kosovo’ as a member of UNESCO and letting it brutally kidnapping the cultural heritage that our ancestors were building for centuries."Nikolic also said that economic cooperation "had to be stepped up," Tanjug reported.
"President Lukashenko and I signed a statement providing for enhancing trade exchange and finding new areas for economic cooperation to enhance national economic growth and improve the standard of living of the citizens," Nikolic said.
During the same news conference, Lukashenko "invited Serbian businesspeople to engage in projects in Belarus," Tanjug reported.
"We understand the situation Serbia is in. She feel the pressure from those countries that only seek profits in Serbia and mostly care about their own interests, forgetting Serbia's interest at the same time. It is obvious that Serbia must today act diplomatically and resourcefully in order to survive this situation," the Belarus leader said.
Lukashenko stressed that his country was "absolutely open" to Serbian businesspeople.
"Come here and develop here what Serbia is interested in. Let's work together on improving trade toward other countries, too. We should waste no time, because it will be hard to make up for it later," Lukashenko said, and added:
"I would like the Serb people and the Serb businesspeople to understand that we have been, are, and will be, your friends," Lukashenko said.
According to him,"the presence of Belarus in the Eurasian Union and the free trade agreement between Serbia and the EU" will enable for better conditions for trade, economic, and investment projects."
