Croatia reopens border with Serbia for refugees

During the first hour about 150 crossed the border and were transported to the Croatian territory in police vans.

The refugees hope that they will soon be able to enter the country faster.

The area in front of the border crossing is several hundred meters long and full of people.

Most of the refugees spent the night in the open, trying to keep warm with blankets and foils they received on entering into Serbia, while some of them tried to light fires with the wood they collected in the area of the town of Sid.

UNHCR and Red Cross representatives said last night was one of "torment" but went peacefully, while new refugees continue to arrive, since buses coming from Presevo regularly pass through Berkasovo.

RTS said that "no one, however, knows according to what criteria Croatian authorities made the decision to close and then open the border."
