Slovenia asked to refrain from backing Kosovo in UNESCO

Kosovo-Metohija's admission to UNESCO is unacceptable to Serbia primarily because the Serbian heritage in Kosovo-Metohija is an inalienable part of the Serbian nation and its history, and its spiritual stature, Nikolic said.

Speaking at a joint press conference after a meeting with Pahor, Nikolic said that Kosovo's request to be admitted to UNESCO is legally groundless and that it would have a negative effect on the outcome of planned expert discussions on protecting the property of the Serbian Orthodox Church and Serbian cultural monuments in Kosovo-Metohija, to be held as part of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.

Despite the fact that Slovenia co-sponsored Albania's proposal that Kosovo's admission to UNESCO be included in the agenda of the Executive Council, I urged Pahor to take our arguments into account and that Slovenia exercise more restraint in future, Nikolic said.
