Cooperation with NATO increasingly intensive - minister

Gasic presented to MPs in the Serbian parliament an agreement of member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and other participating countries of the Partnership for Peace about the status of its forces, with accompanying protocols.

The signing of the agreement does not imply Serbia's NATO entry, Gasic said, underscoring that Serbia, as a military neutral country, would like to foster friendships and partnerships in the East and West.

The minister noted that Serbia joined the Partnership for Peace program in 2006, and that the new agreement would facilitate preparations and the functioning of the army in peace-keeping missions.

The agreement, which MPs are due to ratify, defines the privilege, engagement and immunity of members of forces of one state in the territory of another signatory country, the transit of military forces through the territory of signatory states, and provision of the needed logistic assistance by the host country.
